The Studio

We build digital experiences with the precision of architecture.

1904 Studios is a Lagos-based practice working across brand, product and engineering — one team, one point of view, from first sketch to shipped code.

Our Story

Why 1904 exists

Most digital work looks like it was assembled, not designed — features bolted on in the order they were requested, brands built one campaign at a time. 1904 exists for the businesses that want the alternative: something considered from the ground up.

“Good design isn't a finishing touch. It's the thing that decides whether the business works.”

We started in 2017 on a simple bet: that businesses were undervaluing design not because they didn't care, but because they'd rarely seen it done properly — treated as infrastructure, not decoration.

Modernisation, to us, doesn't mean chasing whatever the newest interface pattern is. It means rebuilding the parts of a product or brand that have quietly stopped working, so the next ten years of decisions get made on solid ground instead of around a workaround.

Every business we've worked with had good instincts and no time to act on them properly. That's the gap we fill — not more opinions, but the discipline to follow one through, from strategy to shipped code.

§ 02
Our Philosophy

How we think

01

Clarity before complexity

We start by removing, not adding. Most problems aren't solved by more features, more pages or more decisions — they're solved by seeing what actually matters and building only that.

02

Design with purpose

Every choice is because of something, never for its own sake. If we can't explain why a decision serves the business or the person using it, we don't make it.

03

Systems over trends

Trends expire. Systems compound. We build design languages that absorb new requirements without breaking, so what we ship keeps working long after the brief is closed.

04

Craft over convenience

The easy version and the right version are rarely the same thing. We choose the version that holds up under scrutiny, even when nobody's asking us to.

05

Technology should disappear

The best engineering is invisible. When a product works, nobody thinks about the stack behind it — they just get on with what they came to do.

They need clarity.

Our Disciplines

Six practices, one studio

Presented as disciplines rather than services, because that's what they are inside the studio — connected practices run by the same senior team, not departments that hand off between each other.

How We Work

A method, not a formula

01

Discover

Deep research into your business, users, and competitive landscape. We establish the foundation before a single pixel is placed.

1–2 wks
02

Define

Strategic alignment on direction, architecture, and success criteria. The brief that guides everything that follows.

03

Design

Visual direction, system thinking, and high-fidelity prototypes. Every detail considered, every decision documented.

4–8 wks
04

Build

Precision engineering with quality assurance at every stage. Code that performs as beautifully as it looks.

4–12 wks
05

Launch

Staged deployment, performance monitoring, and a smooth handoff that sets your team up for independence.
